Seven people, including four family members, lost their lives in a devastating landslide on National Highway 66 near Shirur village in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district. The landslide, triggered by incessant rains, has suspended vehicular traffic and launched intense search and rescue operations.

Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda confirmed the deaths. The victims include Lakshman Naik, his wife Shanti Naik, and other family members. Deputy Commissioner K Lakshmi Priya has ordered the evacuation of villagers from the area due to the risk of gas tanker explosions.

The Karnataka government has announced a compensation of Rs five lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased. Discussions with National Highway Authority of India officials are underway to prevent future incidents.
