Special AC Train Deployed For Tiger Cub Rescue

A special single-coach AC train was deployed from Bhopal to rescue injured tiger cubs from Midghat. The operation, directed by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, faced challenges including the arrival of the mother tigress. Two female cubs were eventually rescued and transported to Bhopal for treatment.

In a commendable act of swift coordination, a special single-coach AC train was deployed from Bhopal to rescue injured tiger cubs from the Midghat section near Budhni in Sehore district on Tuesday.

West Central Railway (WCR) took the initiative to rescue three tiger cubs that were injured after being struck by a train within a forested area. The incident, which occurred during the intervening nights of July 14-15, was highlighted by officials as a critical situation requiring urgent intervention.

One nine-month-old male cub sadly succumbed to its injuries near the railway track, while the other two cubs were found stranded in a nearby drain. Efforts to rescue the cubs faced a significant challenge when their mother arrived at the scene, forcing officials to pause the operation overnight for safety reasons. Rescue activities resumed the following morning with a team of veterinarians and officials from the Satpuda Tiger Reserve successfully extracting the cubs.

The two female cubs, though severely injured, were promptly transported by the special train to Rani Kamalapati railway station in Bhopal before being moved to Van Vihar National Park for further treatment. Officials reported that both cubs had non-functional hind legs due to the effects of tranquillising drugs and are scheduled for further medical examination once the drugs' effects wear off.
