Heavy rains lashed Mumbai since early Thursday morning, causing waterlogging in various parts of the city. According to the India Meteorological Department's Colaba observatory, the island city received 101 millimetres of rainfall, while the suburbs recorded 50.2 millimetres as per the Santacruz observatory.
Over a 10-hour period from 8 am to 6 pm, the island city experienced 47.29 mm of rain, the eastern parts received 30.56 mm, and the western areas got 38.18 mm, as detailed in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) monsoon update. Despite these conditions, the city remained resilient with rail and road traffic running more or less as usual, albeit with some commuter-reported delays of 10-15 minutes.
The financial hub recorded incidents including tree falls, house or wall collapses, and short circuits. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Citizens took to social media to inform each other about waterlogged areas and traffic snarls, as the IMD had forecasted continued heavy rainfall for the city and suburbs.
