At least 11 people were killed, and over 30 went missing after a bridge on a highway in China's Shaanxi province collapsed partially due to flash floods, authorities reported on Saturday.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday evening in Zhashui County, Shangluo City. According to the state-run Xinhua news agency, the collapse was due to a sudden downpour and flash floods.
As of Saturday morning, 11 fatalities were confirmed, and more than 30 individuals remained missing. The collapse resulted in several vehicles plunging into the Jinqian River below, although the exact number of vehicles involved is still being determined. Rescue teams have recovered five vehicles, and operations are ongoing. The Ministry of Emergency Management dispatched a team to guide these efforts, alongside the China National Comprehensive Fire and Rescue Team, which deployed 736 personnel, 76 vehicles, 18 boats, and 32 drones. President Xi Jinping has called for comprehensive rescue and relief efforts to safeguard lives and property.
