Tragedy Strikes as Student Drowns in Vellari River

A student drowned and another went missing in the Vellari river near Gudalur on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border. The incident involved four school students from Pithirkadu Bandhakappu who went fishing. Police and rescue teams retrieved the body of one 18-year-old and are searching for the other missing student.

A tragedy unfolded at the Vellari river near Gudalur, on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, where a student drowned, and another is missing, local police reported on Saturday.

Four school students from Pithirkadu Bandhakappu had gone fishing at the river, despite warnings from local authorities about heavy rains in the area. One student was successfully retrieved, while another remains missing, prompting a hunt by police and Fire and Rescue Services personnel.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed his sorrow over the incident, offering a solatium of Rs three lakh to the affected family and extending his condolences to the bereaved.
