In a recent warning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Goa, predicting heavy rainfall and strong winds in the next four days. This alert comes after the coastal state experienced intense wet spells on Sunday.
Tragically, on the same day, a 16-year-old girl lost her life when a tree fell on her as she was crossing a road in Panaji amidst the strong winds, police reports confirm.
The IMD's forecast includes heavy rain at many locations and very heavy falls at select places in both North Goa and South Goa districts from July 22 to 25. Additionally, intermittent rain with short but intense downpours and winds gusting up to 50 km/h are expected on Monday. The IMD also predicts squally weather with wind speeds reaching 45 to 55 km/h, occasionally gusting to 65 km/h, along and off the coast of North Maharashtra from July 22 to July 24. Fishermen are strongly advised against venturing into the sea during this period.
