In view of the heavy rainfall warning, the administration has declared a holiday for schools on Monday in Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli districts in the Vidarbha region and in four tehsils in Raigad district, Maharashtra.

The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall, with the possibility of extremely heavy showers at isolated places in Nagpur and other districts of the Vidarbha region on Monday. Citizens have been advised not to step out unless absolutely necessary.

Heavy rains lashed Nagpur city and parts of the district on Saturday, disrupting normal life as water entered low-lying areas. Residents were moved to safer locations by authorities.

Raigad district neighboring Mumbai received significant rains over the weekend, leading District Collector Kishan Jawale to declare a holiday for government and private schools in Mangaon, Karjat, Poladpur, and Mahad tehsils on Monday.

Teachers and non-teaching staff have been instructed to report to schools to assist the administration in relief and rescue operations. As several parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai and the coastal Konkan region, experienced substantial rainfall, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde directed officials to remain on high alert.

Shinde emphasized that the State Disaster Response Force and local administration should regularly update themselves on the weather and plan relief efforts accordingly. He added that accident-prone areas should be surveyed, flood control measures adopted, and traffic diverted as necessary. Additionally, sufficient stocks of food, medicines, and relief materials should be maintained, and temporary shelter camps set up for people and animals.
