A raging wildfire has severely damaged part of Jasper, a popular tourist destination in western Canada, authorities reported Thursday. Firefighters are working diligently to protect as many buildings as possible.

Located in Jasper National Park, Alberta, the town and park were evacuated on Monday as flames threatened the area. Parks Canada confirmed widespread damage, with flames reportedly reaching heights of 400 feet.

Restaurant co-owner Ashley Kliewer expressed her dismay, highlighting the significant loss. Meanwhile, Mayor Richard Ireland emphasized the importance of community resilience despite the damage. Environment Canada is forecasting rain, which could aid firefighting efforts.
