Fadnavis Alerts on Increased Water Discharge from Key Maharashtra Dams Amid Heavy Rains

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Thursday that due to incessant rains in the catchment areas, water discharge from Koyna dam in Satara and Khadakwasla dam in Pune is expected to increase. He instructed concerned officials to take necessary actions.
On social media platform X, Fadnavis, who also manages the water resources portfolio, stated, 'Several parts of the state have seen continuous showers, prompting water resource department officials to release water from specific dams. Officials have been asked to keep civic bodies informed about the potential increase in discharge.'
'The discharge from Khadakwasla dam increased from 35,000 cusecs to 40,000 cusecs this evening. Decisions regarding outflow management will be made on Friday morning following a situation review. Similarly, Koyna dam discharge has increased from 20,000 cusecs to 30,000 cusecs, potentially reaching 40,000 cusecs by Friday morning,' he added.
Fadnavis noted that the state government is in regular communication with its Karnataka counterpart regarding the Almatti Dam to prevent flooding in Sangli and Kolhapur.
Earlier, Congress legislator Satej Patil met Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, requesting assistance to prevent water breaching in Krishna River banks, affecting Kolhapur.
Heavy rains in Pune flooded low-lying areas, leading to evacuations by NDRF teams. Army teams were also deployed in the Sinhagad Road area as a precautionary measure.
