Heavy Rains Disrupt Traffic on Sonprayag-Kedarnath Route

The Sonprayag-Kedarnath route experienced severe disruptions on Saturday due to a swollen Sone river, halting traffic near the shuttle service bridge in Sonprayag. Rising water levels in the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers, coupled with heavy rains, prompted local authorities to repair the damaged road. Pilgrims are advised to remain in safe areas until conditions improve.

The Sonprayag-Kedarnath route was severely disrupted on Saturday due to a swollen Sone river, bringing traffic to a standstill near the shuttle service bridge in Sonprayag, confirmed District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar.

Heavy rainfall on Friday night caused a noticeable increase in water levels of both the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers, further complicating the situation, according to Rajwar.

Authorities are currently engaged in road repair efforts in Sonprayag. Rajwar has urged pilgrims traveling to Kedarnath to remain in secure locations until the weather conditions improve and traffic movement is restored.
