Gujarat High Court Urges Comprehensive Traffic Solution

The Gujarat High Court on Monday raised concerns about the ongoing traffic congestion and the alarming decline in green cover across Ahmedabad city. Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to urban planning, critiquing flyovers as mere temporary solutions.

During the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) questioning a proposed flyover between Polytechnic and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM-A), Chief Justice Agarwal stressed that traffic issues extend beyond a single project and require city-wide strategic planning. She pointed out, 'Flyovers are often short-sighted plans made without understanding the city's overall structure.'

Senior advocate Mihir Thakore, representing 20 concerned citizens, highlighted the environmental impact, noting several trees have already been felled for the project. Thakore argued that the flyover might exacerbate congestion by narrowing the roads beneath.
