Tragedy in Wayanad: Landslides Claim 70 Lives

Seventy people have died in landslides in Kerala's Wayanad. Rescue operations are ongoing, with two people rescued alive and 250 displaced. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is monitoring the situation and has pledged support. Over 300 personnel from various agencies are involved in the search-and-rescue missions.

In a tragic incident, 70 people have lost their lives in landslides that struck Wayanad, Kerala, early Tuesday morning. Several individuals have been injured, with rescue teams managing to save two people alive from the debris while 250 others have been moved to safer locations.

Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai informed the Rajya Sabha of these developments, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring the situation. Modi has also communicated with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to assure him of the Centre's full support.

Rai added that comprehensive rescue operations involving over 300 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and local emergency responders are underway. Additional NDRF teams and dog squads are being deployed to aid the operations, which continue to search through the debris for survivors.
