Though methane is the second most potent greenhouse gas, its reduction receives only two percent of global climate finance, primarily emitted from agriculture, fossil fuels, and landfills.

According to lead author Drew Shindell of Duke University, immediate action is essential. The study calls for reduced methane emissions through policy-led actions, coordinated efforts with CO2 reduction, and incentivization for abatement. Notably, countries like India and China could achieve significant reductions with minimal financial burden.
