Catastrophic Landslides Ravage Wayanad

A landslide in Wayanad, Kerala, has killed 132 people and injured over 200. The disaster struck at dawn, destroying over 300 homes and leaving 180 people missing. Rescue efforts involving the Army, Navy, and NDRF are ongoing as officials confirm recovered body parts and the scale of devastation.

Around 132 people have perished, and more than 200 sustained injuries in the massive landslides that struck northern Kerala's Wayanad district, official sources reported on Wednesday. The casualty numbers are expected to rise as rescue teams continue to unearth debris.

More than 180 individuals remain missing, and over 300 houses were completely destroyed in the Mundakkai and Chooralmala areas of the district, according to officials.

Rescue efforts involving the Army, Navy, and NDRF are underway. Teams are meticulously searching for survivors by clearing debris and entering the remnants of destroyed homes.

The landslides occurred between 2 am and 4.10 am on Tuesday, catching residents off-guard while they were asleep, leading to a high number of casualties.

The Wayanad district administration reported late Tuesday night that approximately 30 body parts were recovered from Nilmabur and Meppadi.

Triggered by torrential rains, the catastrophic landslides struck the picturesque locales of Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha early Tuesday morning, leaving behind heartbreaking scenes of death, destruction, and despair.
