Devastating Landslides Rock Northern Kerala

A massive landslide in northern Kerala's Wayanad district has resulted in 158 deaths and over 200 injuries. The catastrophic event, triggered by torrential rains, saw rescue teams working tirelessly to unearth debris. Many bodies have been identified, while numerous others remain under treatment.

A devastating landslide has claimed 158 lives and left over 200 injured in the northern district of Wayanad, Kerala, as of Wednesday. The death toll is expected to rise as rescue operations continue.

Among the deceased are 18 children, with 86 bodies identified and post-mortem examinations completed for 147. Additionally, 52 body parts were recovered, with post-mortems done on 42 of them. Seventy-five bodies have been handed over to the next of kin.

A total of 213 people have been hospitalized, with 97 still receiving treatment. Rescue teams, including the Army, Navy, and NDRF, are diligently searching for survivors.

The landslides, triggered by torrential rains, occurred between 2 am and 4:10 am on Tuesday, catching residents off-guard in their sleep. The picturesque hamlets of Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha were particularly affected.
