Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday launched the 15-day 'Shuchita Sangram' cleanliness campaign.

During the campaign's inauguration, Sinha honoured sanitation workers and praised the contributions of citizens and stakeholders in the Swachhta Abhiyan.

'Swachhta Pakhwada is a movement embodying the spirit of a clean and healthy India, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's vision, aiming to instill a sense of responsibility and commitment towards cleanliness,' Sinha stated.

Sinha said the campaign would focus on cleaning 186 tourist sites, involving the rural development, housing and urban development, and tourism departments.

He also emphasized building the capacity of panchayat secretaries and village-level workers to change behaviors.

Sinha directed officials to raise public awareness about waste management and its environmental impacts.

Community participation was highlighted as a priority.

Sinha commended Jammu and Kashmir's achievements in the Swachh Bharat Mission - Gramin and stressed the importance of maintaining efforts to achieve the title of the cleanest Union Territory.
