Three people, including a six-year-old girl, tragically drowned after rainwater flooded their basement home in Jaipur's Vishwakarma area early Thursday morning, officials reported.
The deceased, Kamal Shah (23), Pooja Saini (19), and her niece Purvi Saini, were found by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) during an extensive rescue mission.
As the basement passage was narrow and deep, the victims became trapped as water levels rose rapidly, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) West Amit Kumar explained.
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed condolences and announced financial aid of Rs 5 lakh for each family of the deceased. The assistance includes Rs 4 lakh from the disaster relief fund and Rs 1 lakh from the chief minister's relief fund.
Residents in the area have been warned to avoid staying in basements during heavy rainfall events.
Due to the heavy rainfall starting Wednesday night, Jaipur experienced severe waterlogging, affecting roadways and residential areas, and causing widespread disruption. Schools declared holidays, and Jaipur Collector Prakash Raj Purohit visited affected areas to guide mitigation efforts.
