A tragic accident took place in south-east Delhi's Pul Prahladpur area early Tuesday. Officials reported that a crane rammed into a temporary accommodation provided to workers near a Metro construction site, resulting in the death of one labourer and injuries to four others, including a woman.
The victims were sleeping in the shelter near the Okhla Metro site on MB Road when the accident happened. Upon receiving a call at 3.54 am, police rushed to the scene where they found a heavy-duty crane had collided with the shelter, causing the wall to collapse and injuring the occupants.
A 35-year-old man named Graiba suffered critical head injuries and was declared dead at the AIIMS Trauma Centre. The other four, who sustained injuries to their hands and legs, were also taken to the same hospital for treatment. The police confirmed that the crane belongs to a private company and was deployed at the Metro project. The driver, who fled the scene, is currently being sought by authorities.
