NTCA Approves Tiger Translocation to Boost Gene Pool Across States

The National Tiger Conservative Authority (NTCA) has approved the translocation of tigers from Madhya Pradesh to Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Odisha. This initiative aims to enhance the gene pool of tigers in these states. The plan will proceed following state government approvals, with particular focus on safe habitats for these big cats.

The National Tiger Conservative Authority (NTCA) has sanctioned the relocation of tigers from Madhya Pradesh to Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Odisha, aiming to enrich the gene pool of tigers in these states, confirmed an official on Sunday.

According to the 2022 tiger census, Madhya Pradesh boasts the highest tiger population, with 785 big cats. The NTCA’s technical committee has approved the relocation plan, pending further approval from the Madhya Pradesh government.

Wildlife expert Ajay Dubey emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of translocated tigers in their new habitats to guarantee the success of this initiative.
