Continuous Downpour Disrupts Daily Life in Rajasthan

Continuous rains have plagued multiple districts of Rajasthan, including the capital Jaipur, recording 118 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. Schools in several districts have declared holidays as waterlogging ensues. The Chief Minister has urged prompt relief efforts while 20 rain-related deaths have been reported.

Continuous rains have severely affected daily life in many districts of Rajasthan, including the capital city of Jaipur.

In the past 24 hours, Jaipur recorded an unprecedented 118 mm of rainfall, causing authorities to declare a holiday for schools in several districts like Bharatpur, Karauli, Dausa, and Sawai Madhopur.

Since Sunday afternoon, intermittent showers have lashed the state capital, turning heavy around 5 am on Monday and continuing until 9 am. This has resulted in extensive flooding in low-lying areas, effectively trapping residents in their homes.

The Education Department has declared a school holiday in multiple districts, including Jaipur, amidst the heavy rains.

According to Jaipur's Meteorological Centre, 118 mm of rainfall was recorded at the Jaipur airport by 8:30 am on Monday.

With heavy rains forecasted for the coming days, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma convened a meeting with senior officials on Sunday to ensure swift relief and prioritization of disaster management activities.

Unfortunately, rain-related incidents have claimed at least 20 lives in the past 24 hours, as reported by the Disaster Relief Management Department. Severe waterlogging has been observed in Karauli and Hindaun due to the relentless downpour.

The Meteorological Department forecasts active monsoon conditions for the next several days in eastern Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, and Kota divisions, with heavy to very heavy rains anticipated. Similarly, the Bikaner division of western Rajasthan is expected to experience moderate to heavy rains for the next three to four days.
