Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has highlighted the dire condition of the city's drainage system, pointing to 'years of neglect' as the cause. Inspecting three major drains, Barapulla, Kushak, and Sunehri, on August 4, Saxena flagged them as 'appalling' and filled with silt and debris.

In a post on X, Saxena stated, 'The city’s major drains, clogged with silt and garbage, are primarily responsible for the waterlogging that plagues Delhi year after year.' He emphasized that this situation is due to prolonged neglect and negligence.

Saxena shared that these three drains alone handle 24% of Delhi's drainage but currently operate at less than 10% capacity. Since his visit, over 1200 MT of silt has been removed in just ten days, though much work remains. He promised comprehensive cleanup efforts and long-term solutions to alleviate waterlogging issues.
