Union Cabinet Approves Major Metro Rail Projects in Maharashtra and Karnataka

In a significant infrastructure push, the Union Cabinet on Friday green-lit metro rail projects in Pune, Thane, and Bengaluru, ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections.
Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet approved two corridors for Bangalore's Phase-3 Metro Rail Project with a total length of 44.65 kilometers and 31 stations, enhancing connectivity in the city's western regions.
Additionally, Pune's existing PCMC-Swargate Metro Line-I project will see a 5.46 km underground extension from Swargate to Katraj, scheduled for completion by February 2029, at a cost of Rs 2,954.53 crore.
The Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project Corridor, spanning 29 kilometers with 22 stations, also received approval. These projects are expected to ease traffic congestion, enhance economic potential, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
