Divers are actively scouring the wreck of a luxury yacht off Sicily's coast to locate six missing individuals, including prominent British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch and a Morgan Stanley executive, who went missing after an intense storm sank the vessel on Monday.

The British-flagged yacht, Bayesian, was carrying 22 people and was anchored off the port of Porticello when it was struck by the fierce pre-dawn storm. Fifteen people managed to escape before the yacht capsized. One body was recovered swiftly, but six passengers remain unaccounted for, including Lynch's daughter, the chairman of Morgan Stanley International, a lawyer, and their wives.

Salvatore Cocina, head of civil protection in Sicily, expressed concerns that the bodies might have been trapped inside the vessel, which rests 49 meters deep. The depth constrains the divers, said fire department diver Marco Tilotta, emphasizing the meticulous, centimeter-by-centimeter search required. The vessel appears mostly intact and lies on its right side. Experts are investigating whether hatches were closed before the storm and probing into extreme weather conditions exacerbated by high sea temperatures.
