Massive Landslide Damages Hydroelectric Project in East Sikkim

A massive landslide hit East Sikkim, damaging parts of a 510-mw hydroelectric project on the Teesta river. The event occurred at Dipu Dara near Singtam, affecting the powerhouse of the NHPC's Teesta Stage V project and damaging 17-18 houses, with families relocated to NHPC quarters.

A massive landslide struck East Sikkim on Tuesday, severely damaging parts of a 510-mw hydroelectric project on the Teesta river, according to officials.

The landslide occurred at Dipu Dara near Singtam around 7 am, causing substantial damage to the powerhouse of the Teesta Stage V hydroelectric project under the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).

In addition, around 17-18 houses were damaged by the landslide, prompting the relocation of affected families to NHPC quarters, officials said.
