A 65-year-old woman from Chhattisgarh's Korba district has become the fifth person to fall victim to a brutal elephant attack in the area within a month, officials reported on Saturday.
The incident took place near Baghmara village in the Balco forest range, where the rogue elephant also killed two bulls, according to a forest officer.
Bhalai Bai and her husband were asleep in their agricultural field hut when the elephant struck late Friday night. While her husband managed to escape, Bhalai Bai was not so fortunate. Local forest and police personnel quickly responded, with the woman's body sent for postmortem examination.
