The death toll in the Transport Nagar building collapse has risen to eight, with rescuers retrieving three additional bodies from the debris, authorities reported on Sunday.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to visit victims at Lok Bandhu Hospital, following his return from Ambedkar Nagar. Joint Commissioner of Police Amit Verma mentioned the minimal likelihood of more individuals being trapped inside.
The three-storey structure, which housed godowns and a motor workshop, collapsed on Saturday, injuring 28 people. Rescue teams from NDRF and SDRF worked overnight, recovering three bodies identified as Raj Kishore (27), Rudra Yadav (24), and Jagrup Singh (35). Relief Commissioner G S Naveen reported that the eighth body was discovered around 3 am on Sunday. The injured have been taken to various hospitals, including Lok Bandhu Hospital.
Joint CP Verma confirmed that their current focus is ensuring no one remains trapped under the rubble. The building, around four years old, had ongoing construction work when it collapsed. Most victims were on the ground floor at the time. An injured worker mentioned noticing a pillar crack moments before the collapse.
