Historic Installation of First Girder for Carnac Overbridge

The first girder of the Carnac overbridge between CSMT and Masjid stations in Mumbai was installed following a night-long block. The project, part of rebuilding the demolished British-era structure, was a collaboration between BMC and Central Railway. The next girder's installation is scheduled for December.

In a significant development for Mumbai's infrastructure, the first girder of the Carnac road overbridge has been successfully positioned between Central Railway's CSMT and Masjid stations. This crucial step occurred after a meticulously planned three-hour block in the intervening night of October 19 and 20, as announced by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The road overbridge, serving as a vital east-west conduit in south Mumbai, is under reconstruction following the demolition of its predecessor, a British-era bridge. According to a BMC release, this project is being executed collaboratively with Central Railway's support.

The south-side girder, weighing 550 metric tonnes and spanning 70 meters, was launched on October 14 and installed over the weekend. It was placed under the technical guidance of RITES Limited and adheres to approved plans from Central Railway. The installation of the second girder is set to accelerate and is planned for December, the release indicated.
