Hurricane Kristy Threatens Pacific with Life-Threatening Surf

Hurricane Kristy has escalated into a powerful Category 4 storm as it roils through the Pacific Ocean, according to forecasters. Currently positioned 710 miles south-southwest of the Baja California peninsula, Kristy carries maximum sustained winds of 155 mph, nearing Category 5 intensity.

The National Hurricane Centre has announced that the storm will remain over open waters, reducing threats to land. However, it is slated to generate waves affecting the western coast of the Baja California peninsula later this week, posing life-threatening surf and rip current dangers.

This rapid intensification follows Kristy's transformation from a tropical storm on Monday to a major hurricane by Wednesday. Fortunately, no coastal watches or warnings have been issued, as the storm's westward trajectory keeps it away from land, permitting careful monitoring of its path.
