Chennai Metro Rail II: A Leap Forward in Urban Connectivity

Chennai Metro Rail's second phase, connecting Poonamallee and Porur, will be inaugurated by year-end, as announced by Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin. He urged the Central government to approve similar projects for Coimbatore and Madurai. The ongoing work showcases rapid progress with significant tunnel boring milestones.

In a significant development for Chennai's urban transport network, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin announced that the Chennai Metro Rail's Phase II, linking Poonamallee and Porur, will be inaugurated by the end of the year. This expansion aims to enhance public connectivity in the city.

During a comprehensive inspection of the ongoing works, Stalin celebrated the progress of the project, initially launched during his tenure as Deputy Chief Minister under M Karunanidhi's leadership. He reiterated a call to the Central Government to approve similar metro projects for Coimbatore and Madurai.

The Phase II project has encountered various engineering challenges, including tunneling under the Adyar River. It is progressing with multiple tunnel boring machines in operation across three corridors, marking a major milestone in Chennai's urban development infrastructure.
