Chinese Tech Stocks Soar in AI-Inspired Rally

Chinese tech stocks in Hong Kong climbed significantly on Friday, marking the best weekly winning streak since 2020. This surge was driven by surprise earnings and growing optimism in the artificial intelligence sector, encouraging global investors to channel funds into the area. The Hang Seng Tech Index soared by 6.5%, its most significant single-day gain since October, reaching a three-year peak.

The index has achieved a six-week consecutive gain streak, the longest since May 2020, with a more than 6% weekly increment. Hong Kong's main benchmark, the Hang Seng Index, also rose by 4% to a three-year high. Tech giants Alibaba and Lenovo led the charge, with impressive performances following better-than-expected financial results and strategic investments in AI and e-commerce.

Overall, China's tech sector has added over $1.3 trillion to its onshore and offshore equity markets within a month, as investors shift their focus from India to China amid expectations of favorable policy changes. The renewed investor interest has been spurred by the launch of affordable AI models like DeepSeek and President Xi Jinping's meeting with major business leaders.
