Historic Mosque Demolished for Delhi Rapid Rail Corridor

A historic mosque on Delhi Road in Meerut was demolished to facilitate the Regional Rapid Transit System Corridor's construction. The demolition was agreed upon by the local Muslim community and conducted with their participation. No relocation was arranged for the mosque, despite its historical documents dating back to 1857.

Officials confirmed that the removal process was initiated by the Muslim community members who began dismantling the structure using hammers. Subsequently, with the majority of the structure down, a bulldozer was employed to complete the demolition.

Despite the mosque's demolition, no alternative site was offered to the community, who claim to have paperwork substantiating the mosque's historical value dating back to 1857. Varying opinions suggest the mosque's age could range from 80 to 168 years.
