Race Against Time: Rescue Operation in Srisailam Tunnel Collapse

Eight individuals were trapped in a collapsed tunnel at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal project. Telangana authorities, along with expert teams and the Indian Army, are conducting a rescue operation. In a dramatic rescue operation, eight individuals remain trapped after a section of roof fell within an under-construction stretch of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project. Telangana's Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy disclosed the incident on Saturday.

Speaking from Nagarkurnool district, Reddy assured reporters that the state sought assistance from the Indian Army and the National Disaster Response Force, in addition to consulting experts familiar with similar past rescues in Uttarakhand. The group, which includes engineers and workers, was stranded 14 kilometers inside the compromised tunnel.

The perilous situation involving geological disturbances is being monitored, with specialist tunnel experts leading the rescue efforts. As an urgent response, a 19-member rescue team from Singareni Collieries Company Ltd. has been deployed to aid the operation. Chief and Union ministers are closely supervising this critical mission to ensure the trapped personnel's safety.
