Leopardess Rescued After Hit-and-Run in Chhattisgarh

A young leopardess suffered injuries after being struck by an unidentified vehicle near Gariaband in Chhattisgarh on Sunday, according to forest officials.

The leopardess, aged between 1.5 and 2 years, was discovered injured by the roadside near Urtuli turn on the Gariaband-Deobhog route early Sunday morning, a forest official reported. Efforts are underway to identify the vehicle involved.

Local residents alerted officials around 5.30 am, who quickly transported the injured feline to a nearby forest rest house for treatment. Authorities confirmed the animal had sustained injuries around its mouth, likely from the impact of the vehicle. A local veterinarian arrived to administer medication, and the leopardess was later moved to Raipur for further care. The forest department is actively investigating the incident, amid ongoing concerns of human-wildlife conflict in the Gariaband area.
