Tragic End for Straying Tigress in Dudhwa

A two-year-old tigress that wandered into a village near Dudhwa Tiger Reserve was killed by locals after it attacked two villagers. The incident has led to a case filed under the Wild Life Protection Act. The tigress's carcass was retrieved for further examination as the villagers recover in the hospital.

A young female tigress, reportedly straying into a village within the buffer zone of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, met a tragic end at the hands of the villagers on Wednesday. The attack on two villagers by the tigress led to her swift demise, officials reported.

In response to the incident, forest officials, headed by Dudhwa Buffer Zone deputy director Saureesh Sahai, retrieved the tigress's carcass from Phulwaria village, Palia tehsil. A formal case against unidentified individuals has been lodged at Palia police station under the Wild Life (Protection) Act.

The villagers injured in the encounter are now stable and receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, the National Tiger Conservation Authority's guidelines were followed in conducting a post-mortem, and tissue samples were sent to the ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute for detailed analysis.
