In a devastating incident, six individuals, including five Afghan sisters, lost their lives when the roof of their house in Karachi's Afghan Basti collapsed on Saturday night. Police confirmed that construction work was underway at the single-storey, dilapidated home, with materials stored on the roof contributing to the tragedy.

According to Gulshan-e-Maymar Station House Officer Agha Asadullah, ten family members were asleep when the roof suddenly gave way, trapping them beneath the debris. Four sisters were pronounced dead at the scene, while two more succumbed to their injuries shortly after at the hospital.

Authorities stated that the deceased included five females aged between seven and twenty. Medical professionals, including police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed, verified the fatalities and examined those critically injured, including two minor children. The incident underscores the dire living conditions faced by Afghan refugees in the Afghan Basti area on Karachi's outskirts.
