Chill in the Hills: Himachal Pradesh Braces for Thunderstorms and Snowfall

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Himachal Pradesh, forecasting thunderstorms and lightning at isolated locations. Snowfall has been reported in higher elevations, notably near the Atal Tunnel. Residents are advised to exercise caution as the region experiences unseasonal precipitation and chilly temperatures.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Himachal Pradesh, warning of potential thunderstorms and lightning touches from Monday to Friday.

Notably, mild snowfall has been recorded in the state's higher regions, including 1 cm in Keylong. Authorities advise against travel through sensitive zones as snow graces areas near the Atal Tunnel.

Despite recent dry weather, Himachal Pradesh witnessed a 44% excess in rainfall this pre-monsoon season, with temperatures dropping to as low as minus 3.1 degrees Celsius in Tabo.
