Amid Protests, Kerala's Landslide Rehabilitation Plan Faces Scrutiny

Kerala's Revenue Minister K Rajan assured that issues regarding the beneficiary list for the Chooralmala-Mundakai landslide rehabilitation would be resolved after addressing media following a review at the District Collectorate. The duplication of names in the list would be rectified, Rajan confirmed.

The current rehabilitation includes providing seven cents of land and a house to each affected family. The scheme, offering Rs 300 daily wages to victims, has been extended for nine months, with retroactive payments to be issued this month.

Despite plans, public disquiet continues as the list mistakes provoke protests. Janasabdam Action Committee activists protested the allocation, demanding 10 cents per family. The discussion led to a promise of resolution, and the protest was called off, yet criticisms persist over the rehabilitation strategy.
