Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla etched his name in the annals of history as he embarked on a mission to the International Space Station (ISS). Joining him on this momentous Axiom-4 commercial mission, which lifted off from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, were mission commander Peggy Whitson from NASA, Poland's Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski, and Hungary's Tibor Kapu.
Amid global anticipation, the Axiom-4 mission aims to reconnect with space exploration, especially for India, which hasn't seen an astronaut join the ISS since Rakesh Sharma journeyed to the Salyut-7 space station in 1984. Celebrations erupted at City Montessori School in Lucknow, where Shukla's family watched the historic launch unfold.
The mission is expected to dock at the ISS on Thursday, June 26, at around 4:30 pm IST, as per NASA. This mission resonates with a sense of returning to space not only for India but also for Poland and Hungary, as all three nations mark their technological stride into the cosmos.
