This Diwali, Ranchi's sound pollution levels soared beyond permissible limits. The Old High Court, a designated 'silence zone', registered an alarming 78 decibels, according to data from the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board (JSPCB).

Despite restrictions on firecracker noise, several areas experienced elevated noise. Albert Ekka Chowk reported a 76-decibel level during the day, exceeding its permissible limit, while Tupudana remained below the threshold.

The air quality in Ranchi and neighboring areas worsened during Diwali, with PM-10 and PM-2.5 levels surpassing safe limits, indicating severe pollution hazards, officials said.
