Gujarat's Bhadar river has come under scrutiny, with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) directing authorities to implement urgent anti-pollution measures in the Jetpur-Navagadh area. This directive follows findings of untreated sewage and industrial waste contaminating the river's waters.
The instructions were issued by the NGT's Principal Bench in New Delhi, following a transferred plea from a PIL initially filed in the Gujarat High Court. The tribunal ordered Jetpur-Navagadh municipality to expedite the completion of its underground sewage system by December 2026 and ensure full household connectivity.
The Gujarat Pollution Control Board has also been tasked with rigorously monitoring two local effluent treatment plants, ensuring compliance with operating consents and preventing any discharge into the river. The tribunal's comprehensive directives aim to restore the environmental integrity of the Bhadar river.
