Sri Lanka is reeling from Cyclone Ditwah, which has triggered the worst floods in a decade and a national emergency. Currently, rescuers are in a race against time to clear roads and deliver aid to over half a million people affected by the cyclone.
With a death toll of 355 and 366 missing, the cyclone struck last Friday, causing devastating floods and landslides in the central region. The disaster has disrupted several critical services, although train and flight operations have resumed.
Authorities confirmed that the storm is weakening and moving northward. However, the impact is already felt as far as India's Tamil Nadu, where three fatalities have been reported. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake described this as an unprecedented disaster in Sri Lanka's history.
