The Madras High Court has given the go-ahead to the Tamil Nadu government for continuing developmental projects at the site of the Madras Race Club. This includes strengthening ponds and moving forward with an Eco Park initiative aimed at mitigating flood risk, enhancing tourism, and reducing pollution.
The court's decision came after the state government's appeal to lift the 'status quo' order, which had been granted by a single judge following an application by the MRC. The division bench, comprised of Justices S M Subramaniam and Mohammed Shaffiq, emphasized the public interest in executing these projects efficiently and without delays.
By endorsing this appeal, the judges have prioritized the benefits of flood prevention, tourism promotion, and natural habitat conservation over the standstill previously imposed. The ruling allows for decisive action towards environmental upgrades in the region.
