A severe cold wave has gripped parts of Jharkhand, with minimum temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius in eight districts, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.

The Ranchi Meteorological Centre bulletin lists Bokaro, Deoghar, Koderma, Gumla, Hazaribag, Khunti, Lohardaga, and Ranchi as the districts experiencing this chilling weather. Notably, Gumla faced the state's lowest temperature at 3.5 degrees Celsius. In contrast, Ranchi recorded 7.5 degrees, whilst Daltonganj and Jamshedpur experienced 6.5 and 9.6 degrees respectively.

Abhishek Anand, Deputy Director of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, explained that the cold wave is due to north-westerly winds at the lower atmospheric levels. These dry weather conditions are likely to persist, with temperatures potentially rising by 2–3 degrees Celsius in the next 72 hours, he added.
