In a tragic series of events, five individuals, including two women, lost their lives after being trampled by wild elephants in Jharkhand. The incidents unfolded over a 24-hour period, according to officials.

In Ramgarh district, three lives were claimed in the Sirka forest area, while a 36-year-old lost his life at Jidu village in Ranchi's Angara late Tuesday, authorities reported. 'Some victims remain unidentified as two quick response teams (QRTs) and forest guards continue tracking the elephant herds,' said Nitish Kumar, Divisional Forest Officer, Ramgarh.

Tragedy struck Tuesday afternoon when Amit Kumar Rajwar, aged 32, approached a herd of eight wild elephants to make a video and take selfies. His encounter turned deadly, resulting in his death, as noted by Kumar. Currently, 42 elephants are traversing the forests along the Ramgarh and Bokaro district borders, he added.
