In a dramatic turn of events, approximately 200 South Korean firefighters were mobilized on Friday to tackle a significant fire outbreak in the impoverished Guryong Village, located within the affluent Gangnam district of southern Seoul, as reported by Yonhap News Agency.
No casualties have been reported at this time, but about 25 residents were evacuated from the area amid firefighters' concerns that the blaze could spread to a nearby mountain, according to Yonhap.
Guryong Village is noted for its makeshift housing conditions, standing in stark contrast to the wealth of Seoul's Gangnam district. The area is slated for redevelopment into high-rise residential buildings.
