A massive fire broke out in Seoul's upscale Gangnam district, mobilizing nearly 300 firefighters on Friday, according to officials. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported thus far, though 47 residents have been evacuated for safety purposes.

The fire alarm level was escalated, with firefighters expressing concern about the blaze potentially extending to a nearby mountain. A total of 85 fire trucks were dispatched to the site, although helicopters were grounded due to haze and fine dust blanketing the city.

South Korea's Safety Minister Yun Ho-jung issued directives for all available resources to be dedicated to saving lives and quelling the fire. The affected area, known as Guryong Village, houses makeshift homes and is located in one of Seoul's most affluent districts. It's slated for redevelopment into modern high-rise residential structures.
