Tragedy on Highway-24: Elderly Pedestrian Killed in SUV Mishap

A 76-year-old man tragically lost his life in an accident on National Highway-24 when an SUV allegedly lost control and mounted a footpath, according to police in east Delhi's Gazipur area.

The incident occurred near a petrol pump at approximately 6 am on Friday, prompting a swift response from authorities. Upon arrival, police discovered the SUV in a damaged state and identified the victim as Paik Karmai, an elderly pedestrian who sustained severe injuries and later succumbed to them. Karmai, originally from West Bengal, was en route to work at the local flower mandi at the time of the accident.

The SUV was reportedly being driven by 26-year-old Shrey Kumar from Noida, while other occupants allegedly fled the scene. Efforts are underway to locate the missing individuals, as forensic teams collect evidence to aid the investigation. In addition, police are reviewing CCTV footage and recording eyewitness statements to piece together the events leading up to the crash.
