Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd has taken a significant step forward by starting the construction of two coastal research vessels for the Geological Survey of India. The initiative was marked by a ceremonial steel cutting attended by GSI Director General Asit Saha and other senior officials from GRSE and the Indian Armed Forces.
These research vessels, designed to be 64 meters long and 13 meters wide, will be equipped for comprehensive geological mapping, mineral exploration, and ocean environment monitoring within India's exclusive economic zone. Modern scientific laboratories on board will facilitate data processing and sample analysis, enhancing their research capabilities.
GRSE is not only focusing on these vessels for GSI but is also engaged in the construction of an ocean research vessel for the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research and an acoustic research ship for the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory. Additionally, the shipyard is constructing warships, advanced multi-purpose vessels for a German company, and hybrid ferries for the West Bengal government.
