Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has called for transforming tree plantation into a mass movement, a crucial step to combat global climate change. Speaking at a milestone event marking five years of his dedication to planting a sapling daily, he underscored the importance of societal participation in environmental protection.
Chouhan initiated his green mission on February 19, 2021, coinciding with Narmada Jayanti at Amarkantak, planting 'Rudraksha' and 'Sal' saplings. Over five years, he has planted over 6,000 saplings. At the event, he announced that all programs by his ministries would commence with tree-planting activities.
The Minister stressed enhancing the forest cover and advocated for a structured platform to engage all community aspects in planting trees. He encouraged citizens to plant a sapling on their birthdays as a personal commitment to ecological preservation. Renowned figures present echoed the necessity of increasing green areas to safeguard the environment.
