Chile's Environmental Reset: Reviewing Controversial Policies

Chile's new government has paused 43 pending environmental regulations from the previous administration as part of an audit. The regulations included emissions rules and creation of national parks. Chile's newly established administration announced on Tuesday a halt and thorough review of 43 pending environmental regulations forwarded by the preceding government in its final days in office. This action is part of an audit led by new President Jose Antonio Kast.

A report by the environmental ministry, accessed by Reuters, indicated that these decrees were withdrawn from the final assessment stage at the comptroller's office, responsible for validating the legal status of government actions.

The regulations encompass emission standards for power plants, pollution norms for copper smelters, as well as establishing national parks and reserves. The ministry clarified that this audit reflects standard procedures at the beginning of any new administration.
